Tourist police in Cox's Bazar have arrested eleven members of an extortion racket and rescued four hostages from the city's Kalatali point.
The nearly day-long drive was started on Sunday around 11pm and ended on Monday 4am.
Additional Superintendent of Tourist Police (Cox's Bazar Zone) Md Rezaul Karim confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
"Acting on a tip-off, police raided an establishment known as 'Sheuli Cottage' and rescued four people from captivity," he said.
At the same time, various instruments of torture were also seized from the place, he added.
According to the rescuers, around five to six boys and three women were being held hostage in the cell.
They were lured into the cottage and after entering, the miscreants took offensive pictures with the women and demanded ransom. They seized all their money and tortured the hostages to get more money from their families.
"There have been reports of similar torture cells in other cottages as well," the police officer said, adding that further investigation is underway.
A case is being filed in this regard.
