The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday claimed that it has been able to punish offenders in 70% of cases.
ACC Commissioner (Investigation) Dr Mozammel Haque Khan made the remark during a public hearing at Chittagong Medical College's Shaheed Birottam Shah Alam Auditorium.
Speaking as the chief guest, he said: “ACC is gradually becoming stronger. ACC has grown in size and capability. It has the authority to investigate and prosecute corruption. We have successfully prosecuted 70% of ACC cases.”
“If someone is named accused in an ACC case, he will be charged until the matter is resolved. There is no way to avoid prosecution. Those who are engaged in corruption will also face legal consequences,” he added.
The ACC official mentioned that the commission has a zero-tolerance policy for corruption.
“Our goal is to reach the 100% target. We'll be happy if we can get close to it. Our actions will continue with a hard hand until we achieve our zero-tolerance policy. We shall never give up,” he observed.
ACC Director General AKM Sohail, Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Ashraf Uddin, Police Commissioner Krishna Pad Roy, and district chiefs of several government departments were present at the program.
