A couple attempted suicide by taking poison while on Facebook Live in Adarsha Sadar upazila of Comilla on Monday, as the underage wife’s family had not accepted their marriage.
On Facebook Live, Sajjad Bhuiyan Bijoy, 28, and Nurunnahar Samia, 17, said they got married on December 29.
Bijoy said Samia’s relatives had refused to accept him into the family and also started torturing Samia. They had also filed a case against him and made a death threat, Bijoy added.
The couple soon took poison on the live stream. Later, locals rescued the two and took them to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
Nafis Imtiaz Uddin Ahmed, resident surgeon at the hospital, said both of them were out of danger now.
Samia’s father Masudur Rahman said: “My daughter is a minor and the papers of their marriage are not authentic. I will file another case against him (Bijoy).”
Kotwali model police station OC Sahidur Rahman said police had been sent to the spot to look into the matter.
