At least four villages of Fulgazi upazila of Feni have been flooded after a dam collapsed due to heavy rains and an onrush of hilly water.
The dam in the Muhuri River of Fulgazi Sadar Union under the upazila collapsed on Monday morning.
According to the locals and water Development Board sources, a portion of the dam collapsed on Monday morning due to heavy rains and an onrush of hilly water. Vast areas of North Daulatpur, South Daulatpur, Ghaniyamora and Bairagpur of Fulgazi sadar union were flooded.
Ashrafur Nahar, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Fulgazi, said four villages in Sadar union were flooded following the collapse of the embankment in Muhuri river.
Zahir Uddin, executive engineer of Feni Water Development Board, said in the morning the water in the Muhuri river was flowing below the danger level. If it doesn’t rain anymore, the water will recede quickly.
