Three international flights from Biman Bangladesh Airlines flights have been suspended from Sylhet’s Osmani International Airport due to the ongoing flood.
The national flag carrier airline has cancelled flights to the United Kingdom (UK) as the airport has been closed since Friday, said Tahera Khandaker, Biman’s public relations officer.
“All flights from Sylhet have been suspended till June 21. Once the airport is operational again, flights will resume,” she added.
The Osmani International Airport has been submerged by floodwater and flights were suspended after 2pm on Friday by Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, authorities have suspended the movement of trains to and from Sylhet railway station as its platform has gone underwater.
For now, trains will run from Maizgaon railway station in Fenchuganj, which is 20km from Sylhet.
Shahidul Huq, general secretary of Sylhet Railway Sramik League, said the platform was under six inches of water.
