A total of 15 people were killed in separate lightning strike incidents in Mymensingh, Sirajganj, Lalmonirhat, Rajshahi, Natore, Bogra and Naogaon and Dinajpur districts on Friday.
In Mymensingh, three teenagers– Abu Saeed, 14, Swadhin, 14, and Shaon Mia, 13–were killed while playing football on an open field at Gangail village in Nandail Upazila.
They were declared dead after being taken to Nandail Upazila Health Complex, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nandail police station.
Meanwhile, two others named Bakkar Hossain and Jahangir Hossain died while fishing in the Brahmaputra River channel at Dori Kushtia village of Mymensingh Sadar Upazila in the afternoon.
In another incident at Char Mohini village in Dhobaura upazila, a man named Abu Syed, 30, was killed by a lightning strike while catching fish in a beel during rainfall in the morning.
He died on way to Dhobaura Upazila Health Complex, said OC Tipu Sultan.
In Sirajganj, two people, including a security guard of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge, were killed in separate lightning strikes on Friday. Besides, four others were seriously injured in the incident.
The injured were taken to Sirajganj 250-bed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital.
The deceased were identified as Nasir Uddin of Saidabad Union area and Abdur Razzak Munshi, 45, of Barni village in Kawakola Union.
In Lalmonirhat, Abdul Matin, 46, was killed by a lightning strike at Sheikh Shundar village in Hatibandha Upazila on Thursday night.
Local people said the thunderbolt struck the man at around 9:30pm when he went out fishing with a group of villagers, BSS reported. He died on the spot, Hatibandha OC Ashraful Alam confirmed.
Moreover, a woman named Nadira Begum, 55, was killed by a lightning strike in Rajshahi’s Godagari Upazila.
Local people said Nadira Begum went to the field to bring her cattle home during the rain when the incident took place. She died on the spot.
Meanwhile, in Rajshahi’s Mohonpur, Rabbi Hossain, 12, was struck by lightning while playing football.
In Natore, college teacher Ataur Rahman, 52, was killed by a lightning strike on Friday. He was a resident of Paikpara village under Sadar Upazila.
In Bogra, a farmer named Jarul Islam, 21, was killed by a lightning strike at Komarbhog village under Chhatiyangram on Friday.
In Naogaon, Nayeem Hossain, 14, was killed by a lightning strike at around 11am on Friday in Bharsho Union when he went to a nearby field to bring his cattle home while it was raining cats and dogs. The boy was struck by lightning and he died on the spot.
In Dinajpur, Ishmotara, 38, was killed by a lightning strike on her way to a pond near her house in Parbatipur upazila. She died on the spot.
