Voting underway in 18 UPs in Tangail

No untoward incident has been reported yet

Voting in 18 union parishads (UPs) of 6 upazilas in Tangail is underway amid tight security and great enthusiasm.

The voting started at the 150 polling stations at 8:00 am on Wednesday and will continue until 4:00 pm without any break.

The total number of voters in the election is 270,901. 

The voter turnout was low in the morning but the number of voters started increasing gradually.

Long queues of both male and female voters were seen at each polling centres.

No reports of violence or untoward incidents have been reported yet.

Adequate numbers of police, RAB, Ansar and BGB have been deployed in the upazilas to make the election fair and acceptable.

In addition, there are also mobile court patrols in the entire area, led by Judicial Magistrates and Executive Magistrates.

AHM Kamrul Hasan, district election officer of Tangail, said so far no untoward incident has been reported.

As many as 71 candidates are contesting for the post of chairman while 489 for general member and 165 for reserved member in this 6 upazilas. One candidate has already been elected for the post of general member without contest.
