Nigerian national kept in Kashimpur jail dies at DMCH

She was accused in a DSA case filed with Dakshinkhan police

A Nigerian national who was kept in Kashimpur Women's Central Jail died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Chidimma Abelof, 26, residing in the capital’s Rupganj Upazila.

Halima Khatun, the senior jail superintendent, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

The woman fell sick inside the prison on Wednesday and was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur the next day.

When her condition deteriorated, she was referred to DMCH on Thursday for advanced treatment. “Legal process will be followed in this regard,” Halima added.

Chidimma was sent to jail after Dakshinkhan police registered a case against her under the Digital Security Act.
