Police have detained three teachers of a madrasah in connection with the murder of a seven-year-old student in Boalkhali upazila, Chittagong.

The arrestees were identified as Hafez Zafar Ahmed, Hafez Mohammad Rustam Ali and Shahadat Hossain.

They were sent to court on Sunday, said Tariq Rahman, additional superintendent of police (Patiya Circle). Police also sought from the court five days to interrogate Zafar.

Tariq said Masud Khan, the uncle of the deceased, filed a murder case at Boalkhali police station on Sunday.

Although the plaintiff did not name anyone, he alleged that three madrasah teachers might have been involved in the child’s murder, added the police official.

The child, named Iftekhar Malikul Mashfique, was found dead with his throat slit at Allama Hazrat Sheikh Asiar Rahman Farooque Orphanage and Madrasah in Boalkhali’s Charandwip area on Saturday.
