At least 10 people were shot and injured on Saturday during a clash between two groups over arranging a religious gathering at Urura village of Mohammadpur Upazila in Magura.
The injured were admitted to a hospital and all are currently out of danger, said Dr Zahidur Rahman, associate professor of Magura Medical College Hospital.
There was a longstanding rivalry between the supporters of Monirul, current member of ward 5 of Binodpur Union Parishad, and former member Liakat Molla, said local people.
Their supporters locked into a clash over arranging a religious gathering around 10am on Saturday, said Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohammadpur police station.
He said police were forced to fire live rounds and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.
Additional police members have been deployed to avert any untoward incident, he said.
