After being in hiding for 22 years, a man convicted over a murder in Jamalpur finally had the net close around him. He was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Thursday.
Abdul Jalil, 72, was arrested from Jamalpur’s Madarganj Upazila in the morning.
Ashique-uz-Zaman, the RAB-14 Jamalpur camp company commander, confirmed the arrest.
According to the law enforcers, Jalil fatally injured his cousin Asar Uddin over a land dispute on May 19, 2000 in Jamalpur’s Melendah Upazila.
Asar Uddin succumbed to his injuries at a hospital the next day while Jalil went into hiding.
On August 8, 2018, the Jamalpur special sessions judge sentenced Jalil to life imprisonment.
The RAB official said that the convict would be handed over to Melendah police after completion of all legal proceedings.
