The dismembered body of a woman was found in a pharmacy in Sunamganj’s Jagannathpur upazila on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Shahnaj Parvin Josna, the wife of one Suruk Mia, an expatriate in Saudi Arabia.

The body was chopped into six pieces and wrapped in a bedsheet, said police.

Josna was missing since Wednesday afternoon, when she had left her home to buy medicine.

Following an extensive search that night, Josna’s relatives went to the house of Jitesh Gop, the owner of the pharmacy, the next morning, only to find out that he had already fled the area with his family.

Later that morning, police broke into Gop’s drug store “Ovi Pharmacy” and found the dismembered body wrapped in a bedsheet.

Helal Mia, brother of the deceased, demanded the authorities investigate into Josna’s death and arrest the perpetrators.

Jagannathpur police station OC Mizanur Rahman said the body was sent to the morgue of Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Police are trying their utmost to nab the culprits, he added.
