Update : 19 Jan 2022, 05:34 PM

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Tuesday sized a big consignment of 4.17kgs of crystal methamphetamine (Crystal meth or Ice) and 50,000 Yaba pills worth Tk22.37 crore from the Naf River in Teknaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar district.

Tipped off, a team of BGB-2 conducted a drive in the area and seized the drugs from a boat in the Naf River, said Sheikh Khalid Mohammad Iftekhar, BGB Teknaf 2 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel.

However, no one was arrested in this connection as the smugglers reportedly fled the scene sensing the presence of the border guards.

Lt. Colonel Khalid said, At one point, BGB members saw a hand-driven boat approaching Jaliardwip in Bangladesh, crossing the Naf River. The boat stopped and tried to flee to Myanmar.

BGB members fired at the boat. The occupants of the boat jumped into the Naf River and fled to Myanmar. The boat left behind by the smugglers was later seized along with a speed boat.

The recovered drugs have been kept at the BGB's Teknaf Battalion office and legal action has been taken at Teknaf police station in this regard.

Known by its street name ‘Ice’, crystal meth is a powerful drug that affects the central nervous system. It comes in the form of clear crystals or shiny blue-white rocks.
