Fakhrul calls for launching social movement against drugs

Government is making all-out efforts to eradicate drug abuse from the country

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday stressed the need for launching a social movement against drug abuse across the country.

“We want to build a social movement against drug abuse involving people from all walks of life, regardless of their party affiliation,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at an anti-drug meeting held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner in Thakurgaon.

Fakhrul, also the BNP secretary general, said if drug abuse can be eradicated, many problems of society will be solved. The incumbent BNP government is making all-out efforts to eradicate drug abuse from the country, he added.

The Thakurgaon district administration organised the meeting. With Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rafiqul Huq in the chair, the meeting was attended, among others, by Superintendent of Police Belal Hossain, 50 BGB Commander Lt Col Akhlaq Hossain and Thakurgaon district BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin.
