The Editors' Council has called for the perpetrators involved in the heinous killing of journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim to be brought to justice and receive exemplary punishment.
The council expressed its deep concern over the ongoing insecurity faced by journalists while carrying out their professional duties, according to a media statement issued on Sunday.
The tragic incident involving journalist Nadim highlights the alarming lack of security faced by journalists who strive to report the truth. Such acts of violence and brutality against journalists not only curtail the freedom of speech but also violate fundamental human rights, the statement emphasized.
The Editors' Council extended its heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the grieving family members of Nadim, acknowledging the immeasurable loss they have suffered.
Nadim, a journalist affiliated with Banglanews24.com and Ekattor Television, was brutally attacked by alleged supporters of a Union Parishad (UP) chairman in the Pathati area of Bokshiganj upazila on Wednesday night.
Despite receiving medical treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, he tragically succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.
Nadim had been serving as the correspondent for Jamalpur in Banglanews24.com and as the Bokshiganj upazila correspondent for Ekattor Television. He was also an esteemed member of the Jamalpur Press Club.
