The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Friday arrested a former Bangladesh Chhatra League leader over their parade in front of the home of a rival councillor candidate with arms.

Senior ASP Afsan-al-Alam, media officer of RAB-9 on Saturday said the former Chhatra League leader Abul Kalam Azad Tuhin was detained from the North Shahbazpur Bazar area of Moulvibazar.

Tuhin is known to be a follower of the ward No 7 Councillor and President of the Sylhet Metropolitan Swechasebak League, Aftab Hossain Khan.

Earlier, the Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) detained three other people over the incident.

A team of the Sylhet airport police carried out an operation and apprehended them in the morning, said SMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Sudip Das.

The three are Atiqur Rahman, Jubair Ahmed and Nurujjaman, all hail from the Bonkalapara area of Sylhet.

Previously, an allegation of an armed parade in front of the home of a rival councillor candidate was made against Aftab Hossain Khan.

The allegation was raised by Syed Md Abdullah, who is contesting against the Swechasebak League leader in the councillor post in ward No 7.

Abdullah made a written complaint to the returning officer on June 9 and informed the police as well, seeking protection for himself and his family.  Apart from that, a case has also been filed with Sylhet's Airport police station.

CCTV footage, which suggests the incident occurred on June 6, went viral on social media on Thursday, sparking unrest among locals.
