MV Zhe Hai, a Chinese vessel transporting 26,620 tons of coal from Indonesia for the Rampal power plant in Bagerhat, docked at Mongla port on Saturday.
The ship arrived at Harbaria at 5am, said Khandaker Reazul Haque, assistant manager of Togi Shipping and Logistics Limited Khulna, the local shipping agent of MV Zhe Hai.
Unloading and transport operations are currently underway.
Embarking on its journey from Indonesia, the ship set sail on May 21, undertaking the task of transporting the coal to Mongla port.
Preceding this, two Bangladeshi-flagged vessels, MV Basundhara Impress and MV Basundhara Majesty, arrived on May 16 and May 29, respectively, carrying 30,000 tons and 30,500 tons of coal each for the Rampal power plant.
The recent coal shortage has had severe consequences, causing the shutdown of the Payra power plant last Monday and then the Banshkhali power plant on Friday. The arrival of MV Zhe Hai has brought some relief for the Rampal power plant, providing the necessary supplies for its operations.
