Three women were killed and 15 people were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a pickup van on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj in the early hours of Saturday.
The deceased were Manjila Begum, 45, Tanjila Begum, 35, and Shahinur Begum, 45.
Bahubal police station OC Rakibul Islam Khan said the pickup, heading towards Hazrat Shahjalal Mazar in Sylhet with 18 passengers, had crashed into the stone-laden truck coming from the opposite direction, leaving the three dead on the spot and injuring at least 15.
The injured had been admitted to different local hospitals, he added.
