Interpol has issued a red notice against Arav Khan alias Rabiul Islam Apon, suspect in a police murder case, following a request from Bangladesh Police. said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.
He disclosed the information after inaugurating the newly built Enayet Bazar police outpost in Chittagong on Monday afternoon.
The police chief said: “We have begun approaching various places, including Interpol, to gather information about Arav Khan. I have come to know a while ago that we have issued a application for red notice in the name of him in which name we have given the charge sheet, and it was accepted by Interpol. We are working on it, but we do not want to reveal anything right now for the sake of investigation.”
The IGP said if an accused flees the country and goes overseas, police take steps to issue a red alert. It is delivered to Interpol's headquarters.
When asked about Arav's connection with a top police official, he said: “It has come to our attention, and we are looking into it. We will notify after we have completed our investigation.”
He said that the celebrities who attended the inauguration of Aarav Khan's gold shop will have to explain why they went. “We will inform shortly.”
Earlier, at around 1pm, the chief of police inaugurated the newly built Chittagong Metropolitan Police's (CMP) Enayet Bazaar outpost, at a cost of 3.54 crores.
Chittagong Range DIG Anwar Hossain, CMP Commissioner Krishna Pad Roy, and senior Chittagong District and Metropolitan Police officers were present at the program.
