JaPa’s Mostafa re-elected as Rangpur city mayor by wide margin

Votes were cast through EVMs at all 229 centres

Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, the Jataya Party-backed candidate in the Rangpur City Corporation polls, has been re-elected as mayor by a huge margin.

Mostafa bagged 146,798 votes at 229 polling centres in Tuesday's election.

His nearest rival, the Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Amiruzzaman Piyal, got 49,892 votes. 

Returning Officer Abdul Baten announced the results at the election control room at Rangpur Shilpakala Academy at midnight.

The Awami League's rebel candidate Latifur Rahman got 33,883 votes, while the Awami League candidate, Advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia, secured 22,306 votes.

The polling started at 8:30am on Tuesday. Votes were cast through EVMs at all centres.

The total number of voters in this election was 426,469. Of them, 212,302 were men and 214,469 were women.
