The railway project from Madhukhali to Magura via the Kamarkhali Broad Gauge will not be completed within deadline, says Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan.
Even though the deadline will be extended, the project cost will remain unchanged, he said on Tuesday.
“However, the construction company is asking to increase the costing and the government might take that into consideration,” he added.
He made the announcement while speaking to the media during his visit to the under-construction Kamarkhali Railway Station.
“The four-year term project was undertaken in 2018 and it was supposed to be complete by November this year,” the minister said.
“However, the work could not be started on time due to several complications related to land procurement, the condition of the area, and the Covid-19 pandemic,” he added.

According to the minister, the work for the project only began on May 23, 2021.
He said that two rail stations—one in Magura and one in Faridpur’s Kamarkhali—are underway as part of the project.
According to railway sources, the total cost of the project is Tk878 crore. Around Tk430 crore is being spent on the 19.9km Broad Gauge railway, being implemented Castle Construction Company, a concern of lawmaker Kazi Nabil Ahmed.
So far 30% of the project has been implemented, the sources said.
On the other hand, the construction of the railway bridge above the Madhumati River is progressing steadily and under the project old rail lines are also being renovated.
The 2,412km railway bridge is being implemented at a cost of Tk447 crore. Around 27% of the project work is completed.
