At least 7 killed in road crashes across country

A 40-year-old police constable was killed after a collision between two motorcycles in Naogaon

At least seven people were killed in road accidents in Naogaon, Noakhali, Khulna and Chuadanga on Sunday. 

In Naogaon, a 40-year-old police constable was killed and his wife was injured after a collision between two motorcycles in Raninagar upazila on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Shahin Alam, son of Osman Mollah of Uttar Rajapur village in the upazila. 

Confirming the matter, Raninagar police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad said the accident occurred around 6pm when Shahin and his wife were going to his sister's house in Bandaikhara on a motorcycle. 

When they reached Kujail Bazar area, a speeding motorcycle from the opposite direction hit their bike, leaving the duo critically injured.

They were rushed to Raninagar Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Shahindead on arrival, added the OC.

His wife Shipon Begum was shifted to NaogaonbSadar Hospital at night as her condition deteriorated.

Legal action will be taken in this regard, added the officer.

In Noakhali’s Begumganj Upazila, three people were killed after a battery-driven autorickshaw collided with a pick-up van early on 4am.

The incident was reported from the Noakhali-Feni regional highway, confirmed Chandraganj Highway Police OC Mridul Kanti Kuri.

The deceased have been identified as Md Sohel, 22, Amjad Hossain, 28, and autorickshaw driver Moazzem Hossain Hridoy, 21. 

According to police and locals, Sohel and Amjad, workers at a hotel, got on the autorickshaw to go to their hometown from Feni. 

At around 4am, when the autorickshaw reached the Shetubhanga bazar on the highway, it collided with a pick up van coming in from the other side. 

Moazzem and Sohel died on spot while, Amjad along with another injured Md Forkan Uddin were taken to Noakhali General Hospital. 

Amjad later died while on the way to Dhaka for advanced treatment. 

Chandraganj Highway Police OC Mridul Kanti Kuri said that the two vehicles have been seized and the bodies have been handed over to the families. 

In Khulna, Md Raju, 26, was killed after he lost control of his motorcycle near the Hogladanga main road around 7pm on Saturday. 

Harintana Police OC Emdadul Haque confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune's Khulna correspondent Hedait Hossain Mollah. 

Local and police sources said that Raju was not wearing a helmet and sustained head injuries after he lost control of his motorbike, hit an autorickshaw and fell on the side of the road.

Locals rescued him and took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
In Chuadanga, two persons were killed in two separate road accidents in Sadar and Damurhuda upazila on Sunday.

In Sadar, an elderly man was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle near Zafarpur BGB camp in the morning.

The deceased were identified as Faraz Ali, 70, son of late Khoka Ali of Jafarpur village of the upazila.

The accident occurred around 11am when an identified vehicle hit Faraz Ali, leaving him injured, said Sanjay Chakraborty, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station.

Locals rushed him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Legal action will be taken in this regard, added the SI.

In another incident, a motorcyclist was killed and his pillion rider suffered injuries after their motorcycle hit a roadside tree at Sarabaria New village in Damurhuda upazila.

The deceased Enamul Haque, 32, was from Sarabaria village of Damurhuda upazila.

AHM Lutful Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Darshana police station said, the driver of the motorcycle hit a roadside tree after losing control of his bike around 1pm, leaving its driver critically injured.

Later, the injured was rushed to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead on arrival, the OC added.

The bodies have been kept in the hospital.
