One depot fire deceased suspected to be Rohingya refugee

The identity of the deceased is yet to be confirmed

Update : 08 Jun 2022, 05:19 PM

One of the bodies from Saturday’s fire at the BM Container Depot may be that of a Rohingya refugee from the Balukhali camp in Ukhiya, sources at Chittagong CID told Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.

The body was being kept at the morgue of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

It is suspected that the Rohingya man concealed his identity to work at the depot. The information was gleaned by dialling a phone found in the deceased’s pocket and is yet to be verified, the CID sources said on condition of anonymity.

According to several volunteers of Gausia Committee Bangladesh, an organisation that has been providing volunteer support with DNA sample collection since early Monday, two people came to claim the dead body saying they hailed from Sylhet. However, the body was yet to be released as its identity had not been confirmed yet.
