A man suffering from paralysis has died in a fire at a house in Hathazari upazila of Chittagong.
The blaze broke out in the house at around 5:30am on Saturday, killing Md Forkan, 44, said Hathazari Fire Service Senior Station Officer Md Shahjahan.
Forkan had been paralyzed and could not walk, he said, adding that the body had been sent for autopsy.
Two firefighting units had managed to douse the fire after two hours, said the Fire Service official.
The fire might have originated from a mosquito coil, he added.
Md Manju, the owner of the house, said his brother-in-law Forkan had come to attend a wedding. “My younger brother got married five days ago.”
“Many valuables, including gold jewelleries, some cash, a motorcycle and three refrigerators, were burnt. It has been only a month since my brother returned home from abroad. His passport and visa have all been burnt,” said Manju.
