The Cyber Crime Tribunal of Rajshahi on Sunday convicted three people and sentenced them to six years of imprisonment on charges of their involvement in cyber crimes in Bogra around three and a half years back.
The court also fined Tk8 lakh to each of the convicts–Shuvash Roy Kanok, Shihabur Rahman and Ariful Islam Alif.
Rajshahi Divisional Cyber Tribunal Judge Ziaur Rahman found them guilty of the charges and handed down the verdict with the convicts present.
They were later sent to Rajshahi Central Jail.
Public Prosecutor Ismat Ara told the journalists that a case had been lodged with Bogra Sadar police station against them related to their involvement in cyber crimes on October 4, 2019.
Referring to the prosecution story, Ismat Ara said the three men were found engaged in spreading obscene photos of a college girl on social media.
The girl's father filed a case under the Digital Security Act.
Although the case was filed against unknown persons, the police investigation later revealed their involvement.
Upon completion of the investigation, police pressed charges against the accused.
After examining the recorded depositions of nine prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence, the tribunal pronounced the verdict.
