Sylhet flood situation continues to improve

The water levels at some of the flooded areas in Sylhet including the metropolitan area have started receding. 

However, residents are yet to be relieved as the stench from the garbage mired in floodwater haunts them. 

Trash floats on the blackened and stagnant water, causing residents to hold their breath while out on the city streets. 

On the other hand, the water levels at Kushiyara River is still flowing 48 centimetres above danger level at the Fenchuganj point, 28cm at the Shewla point and 84cm at the Amalsid point.

Meanwhile, areas near the river such as Bhelkuna, Goyasi, Baghmara and Fenchuganj have been flooded gain. 

On the other hand, Surma River is flowing 43cm above its danger level at the Kanaighat point. 

Fenchuganj UNO Seema Sharmeen said that even if water level rises, they are prepared to handle the situation.
