A local union parishad (UP) member has sued a journalist named Nobin Hasan under the Digital Security Act for allegedly publishing defamatory news about her.
Anowara Begum, a reserved seat UP member from Chilarang, sued Nobin, who is the DBC News Thakurgaon correspondent and also works for several other news outlets.
Media workers in Thakurgaon condemned the action by the UP member against Nobin.
The journalist-- who reports for Dainik Manobkantha, Daily Bangladesh and Dainik Lokayan alongside DBC news—was sued over a report published on dbctime.com.

The case was filed with Thakurgaon additional chief judicial magistrate’s court on Tuesday.
The court then instructed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to probe the case.
The journalist said he had nothing to do with the online portal which published the news, but the case statement mentioned him as the Thakurgaon correspondent of the portal.
ABM Rezaul Islam, additional superintendent of police (PBI) in Thakurgaon, said the court order had not reached the police yet.
The law enforcers would initiate proceedings once the order reached them, he added.
