At least five people including two women were killed and three others sustained injuries after a microbus hit their auto-rickshaw near Soleyasar Bazar in Rangpur’s Gangachara on Wednesday evening.
The deceased include the driver of the auto-rickshaw. Of the five, two women died on the way to the hospital while the three others were killed on the spot, police said.
“The microbus driver was talking on the phone while driving. His carelessness has caused the deaths of five people,” Gangachara police station Officer-in-Charge Dulal Hossain told Dhaka Tribune.

Police seized the microbus, which was heading towards Rangpur from Syedpur, but the driver managed to flee the scene.
“We’re trying to arrest the microbus driver,” the OC said.
The three injured people are undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
After the accident, locals blocked Rangpur-Syedpur Highway for around two hours.
