A trader was shot in the knees while he was preparing to say his Eid prayers in Comilla Adarsha Sadar area on Tuesday.
Mostak Ahmed, a grocer, was rushed to Comilla Medical College Hospital immediately after the attack.
Sahidur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, confirmed the matter.
Local people were coming in numbers to the Eidgah ground on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr in Bhuiyan Bari area under Panchthubi Union when one Rubel Bhuiyan opened fire on Mostak over previous enmity, according to police.
As a result, the devotees got frightened and dispersed. The Eid Jamaat was also postponed for an hour.
The attacker fled immediately after the shooting, police said, adding that they were conducting raids to arrest him.
Monir Hossain, the younger brother of Mostak, complained that Rubel had assaulted Monir a few days ago. “But the police did not take action against him, although Rubel is facing several cases and was seen roaming around with firearms on several instances,” Monir said, demanding his immediate arrest.
