Police have so far detained two persons over the death of a four-year-old girl, who was fatally shot one her father's lap during a clash at Noakhali’s Begumganj upazila.

Begumganj Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Nazmul Hasan on Thursday confirmed the matter to the Bangla daily Prothom Alo, but did not disclose the name of the detainees.

Tasfia and her father, Abu Jaher, 46, sustained gunshot wounds in an attack that took place in Hajipur village in the upazila on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police and local residents, Md Rimon, a resident of the Durgapur area, and some five others stormed the grocery shop of Md Mamun, nephew of Jaher, over a previous dispute.

An altercation ensued soon after, and Jaher with Tasfia in his lap tried to break it off.

At one point, Rimon and his accomplices opened fire at Mamun at first and then at Jaher.
