Criminals have demanded Tk20 crore to release a prominent businessman of Patuakhali, Shibu Lal Das, and his driver cum personal assistant.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patuakhali Sadar police station Moniruzzaman said that they had got an audio record demanding the ransom. On the other hand, Shibu's SUV was recovered from Barguna's Amtali.
Shibu is a resident of Puran Bazar area of Patuakhali district town. He belongs to the distribution agencies of Square Toiletries and Square Food and Beverage Ltd.
He also has businesses linked to construction, handles bridge toll and ferry terminals, and holds partnership in distributing business of various companies, and also owns a rice mill.
Shibu was abducted along with his assistant Miraj Hossaim 42, while returning to Patuakhali town after completing a business affair in Galachipa of Barisal around 9pm on Monday, OC Moniruzzaman said, based on a complaint.
Shibu’s family members alleged that the kidnappers called them over the phone and demanded the money around 3am.
Later, the incident was reported to Patuakhali Sadar police station and a complaint was filed.
Patuakhali Additional Superintendent of Police Mainul Hasan said that several teams of police were working to rescue the abductees.
