Police have arrested a man over the killing of a youth during a clash that ensued after he took his four-year-old daughter to a mosque in Raipura Upazila of Narsingdi.
Raipura police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azizur Rahman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
The deceased was identified as Lalchan Mia, 28, hailing from Bahadurpur area of Uttar Bakhar Nagar Union. He was a farmer by profession.
According to the case, on Thursday evening, Nurul Islam of Bahadurpur village and his four-year-old daughter Nusrat went to the mosque next to the house.
When the congregation started, the girl stood in the back row of the Imam. At that time, neighbour Alauddin spoke offensively about the girl. Due to this, a fight broke out between him and the girl’s father.
Later that night, victim Lalchan learned about his uncle Alauddin’s fight and went to visit him.
At around 10pm, the two sides clashed again. Nurul Islam, Jewel, Muktar and Oli stabbed Lalchan in the head.
He was later rescued and brought to Upazila Health Complex. After first aid, he was sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. Then the doctors on duty referred Lalchan to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated.
He was admitted to Shin Shin Japan Hospital in the capital’s Uttara area in critical condition and died while undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit on Sunday.
A murder case has been filed against 12 people at Raipura police station.
“A person has been arrested and sent to court seeking remand. All those involved in this incident will be brought under the law,” said the OC.
