Two traffic police constables in Gazipur have been withdrawn from their duties for beating up the driver of Gazipur deputy commissioner.
The incident was reported around 12:30pm near Rani Bilashmoni Government Boys High School on Sunday.
The two withdrawn traffic police constables are Nur Mohammad and Yusuf Ali. They have been attached to the police lines, said Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) Abdullah Al Mamun.
“Departmental action will be taken against them,” he added.
Witnesses say driver Hira Mia was taking the DC’s children home after their school. At that time, Nur and Yusuf asked the car to take another route.
Hira protested, saying he had the daughters of the DC in the car and had to take that particular road.
In the aftermath, both the constables hit Hira Mia with a stick and tried to drag him out of the car. Later, the driver turned the car around and went to the DC's residence using another route.
In protest, the employees of the DC's office took to the streets demanding action against the traffic constables on Monday.
Drivers and employees of the Transport Pool of the District Administration Office blocked the Rajbari Road for half an hour. Later, senior officials managed to bring the situation under control.
