A Muslim woman was caught stealing from a Hindu temple in Brahmanbaria in the guise of a Hindu woman wearing Shakha (Bangles worn by married Hindu women) and Sindoor (vermilion) during the Basanti Puja.
The incident was reported at Sri Sri Raghunath Jew Temple in Kandipara of Brahmanbaria municipal area on Sunday afternoon.
The accused, Sayeda Begum, 25, was caught red-handed by some devotees when she was attempting to steal from the temple, Officer-in-Charge Md Emranul Islam of Sadar police station told Bangla Tribune.
But she claimed her name was "Sathi Roy" at the first place. However, after some time, she gave in and disclosed her real name in the face of interrogation.
After Sayeda was handed over to police, she confessed to stealing from the temple in primary interrogation, said the OC. Necessary legal action would be taken against her.
Locals suspect that Sayeda was part of an organized gang.
