The strike of Dhaka-bound buses from Rangpur was called off on Friday after three days of public suffering.
Rangpur Motor Owners Association and Motor Sramik Union ended the strike, after a meeting with the administration, police and bus owners, with Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Asib Ahsan in the chair.
However, neither the transport worker nor owners groups claimed responsibility for the unannounced suspension of public transportation.
The strike, which left hundreds of commuters confused, was said to be carried out by transport workers to press home their five-point demand, which includes increasing their salaries.
However, Motor Owners Association mentioned in the meeting that they had already increased pay for their drivers and helpers.
Meanwhile, due to the lack of passengers, no buses left for Dhaka on Friday morning.
Transport owners said as the decision was taken late at night, most commuters were unaware of the suspension.
Manager of “Agamni Express”, Sadhan Roy said none of their buses left for Dhaka, as the tickets were not sold.
Ashfaq, a counter manager of “SR Travels” said, four of their buses were scheduled for Dhaka on Friday morning, but they could only manage to send one.
The transport strike on the Dhaka-Rangpur route began on Tuesday, without any prior notice.
