Police arrested a member of Babukhali Union Parishad (UP) of Mohammadpur Upazila in Magura on rape charges on Monday.
The arrestee is Ismail Mridha, son of late Awal Mridha and a member of Ward No 6 of Babukhali UP.
The victim’s mother said Ismail had visited her house a few days ago. He said that he would provide her daughter with an allowance card, for which she needed to submit a medical certificate.
On Sunday morning, Ismail took the girl to Magura hospital in the name of medical examination, but no medical test was held there.
Later, he took the girl to a house near the education office on Haji Saheb Road, where he violated her. When the girl screamed, Ismail Mridha left her in the house and fled.
Later, the girl’s mother lodged a written complaint with Magura police in this regard, said Nasir Uddin, the officer-in-charge.
Based on the complaint, police arrested Ismail Mridha on Monday and produced him before a court.
