A former councilor in Tangail has alleged that a group of miscreants has been trying to kill him as he is an eyewitness to a murder taking place in 2008.

Masud Rana said that he and his family are currently suffering from insecurity and want the law enforcers to take immediate measures.

Masud Rana, former councilor of Dhanbari Upazila, held a press conference at the Tangail press club on Wednesday in this regard.

Masud Rana said he was witness to a murder which took place on 28 April 2008 in a neighboring village. Police later interrogated him and recorded his statement. Following his cooperation with the law enforcers, the gang led by one Abdul Kader has been harassing him and his family members.

Masud Rana said that Abdul Kader and his aide Altaf Hossain had planned to kill him. As part of their plan, the two men tried to kill him in a road crash in November last year.

The gang also attacked his family members and tried to take control of a pond belonging to the family.

Altaf had also sued Masud’s son, a seventh-grader, and his elder brother in a case for theft.

The former councilor also alleged that Altaf and his supporters had attacked his business establishment and stolen money from there as well.

He said that the gang had attacked his family members on a number of occasions and they were now feeling helpless. The family called on the law enforcers to intervene in the matter and provide them with necessary legal protection
