Fuel oil traders in 15 southwestern districts of Bangladesh have announced to go on a strike from February 17 demanding their commission on sales be increased by 7.5%.
The 15 districts include the 10 of Khulna division and Faridpur, Gopalganj, Madaripur, Rajbari and Shariatpur.
The decision to call the 'indefinite' strike came following a meeting between Bangladesh Tanker Lorry Owners Association and Bangladesh Fuel Oil Distributors Association on Saturday.
They said they will halt the movement of fuel trucks and suspend extraction of oil from the depots of Jamuna, Padma and Meghna oil companies during the strike.
The protests in the 15 districts will be observed in solidarity with the strike called by Bangladesh Petroleum Dealers, Distributors, Agents and Owners Association.
Besides the increase in the commission on sales, their demands also include introduction of up to Tk5 lakh in accident insurance for tank truck workers, publishing of a notification regarding the fuel oil commission for traders and cancellation of the system of leasing land for petrol pump entrances from the Roads and Highways Department.
