‘Administrative reason’ cited for the withdrawal order

Authorities have withdrawn the officer-in-charge of Sudharam Model police station in Noakhali as per the directives of the Election Commission.
Md Shahed Uddin was withdrawn and attached to the police lines on Thursday night.
The decision came within hours after Ashfaqur Rahman, an assistant secretary of the EC Secretariat, issued a letter in this regard, said Superintendent of Police Md Shahidul Islam.
The EC letter asked for the move due to “administrative reasons” and further instructed that a suitable officer be posted in his place.
Election to the first-class municipality (Noakhali district town Maijdee) will be held on January 18.
Seven candidates are contesting for the post of mayor, 14 for reserved seat councillor posts in nine wards and 63 candidates are vying for the post of general councillors.
