Police say the killings of three of a family in Khulna’s Koyra in October were caused as victim Habibullah, the neighbour of Razia Sultana, learned of her extramarital affair with one Ziaur Rahman.
Habibullah’s wife Beauty and their 12-year-old daughter Tuni were raped before the three were killed and dumped in a pond nearby their home, Khulna’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Mahbub Hasan said on Monday.
The murders took place “due to sexual perversion and an extramarital affair”, he told a media call.
Ziaur and Razia are among the 14 arrests made over the gruesome killings, said the district police chief before adding six of them were on remand.
During police interrogation one of the detainees said Razia’s husband was rarely at home due to business purposes and Habibullah, being their neighbor, came to know about her affair with Ziaur, said SP Hasan.
“A year before the incident, Razia had also attacked Habibullah as he attempted to stop the extramarital affair between her and Ziaur. After this incident, the locals also found out about the affair,” he said.
On October 25, a group of at least six people led by Ziaur and one Rashid launched an attack on Habibullah’s home.
The bodies of Habibullah, his wife and daughter were found in a pond the next day.
