A ward member of Shundoli Union Parishad in Jessore was shot dead by some unidentified miscreants on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Uttam Kumar Sarkar, son of Oshantu Sarkar of Harishpur village of the upazila. He was elected member of ward No 1 of the union on December 26.
The incident occurred at around 8:30pm on the road adjacent to Harishpur Government Primary School.
According to witnesses, some miscreants attacked Uttam while heading toward his home from Sundoli Bazar. They shot him on the chest and fled from the spot as the locals came upon hearing the chaos.
Md Shamim, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar police station, said Uttam died on the spot. “The body has been sent to Jessore Medical College for an autopsy.”
