An elderly man was killed and two others injured in an altercation over a land dispute in Kaliakair Upazila of Gazipur.
The deceased Abdul Mannan Mia, 65 was at odds with one Selim Mia over land boundaries. Mannan and his accomplices were attacked by Selim and his wife Afroza Akhter Jhumu on Saturday afternoon, when Mannan was trying to demarcate the border next to his house with a tin fence.
Akbar Ali Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliakair police station, confirmed the incident and said Jhumu had been arrested over the matter.
The three injured, including Mannan, were rescued and taken for treatment at Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex. Mannan died from his injuries while he was being moved to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital for better treatment around 11am on Sunday.
Mannan’s body has been sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College for autopsy and legal action will be taken over the incident, the OC said.
