A Jana Samhati Samity (JSS-Shantu Larma) leader has been shot dead by assailants in Rangamati's Baghaichhari upazila.
The deceased has been identified as Suresh Kanti Chakma Prakash Dinesh, 55.
The incident took place in the Bangaltali area of the upazila on Friday morning.
Confirming the matter, Baghaichhari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain Khan said they have recovered Dinesh’s body, and the army has inspected the scene.

However, it is not yet known who caused the incident, he added.
Meanwhile, Tridip Chakma, another leader of JSS-Shantu Larma party, alleged that the JSS (Reformist-MN Larma) party was responsible for the incident.
However, JSS (Reformist-MN Larma) Baghaichhari President Gyanjib Chakma denied the allegation and said they have no members in Bangaltali. The incident was the result of an internal dispute of the other party.
With the UP elections looming, someone is trying to spread panic in the area by carrying out such activities, he added.
