4 detained over highway robbery in Chapainawabganj

Five people were injured during the robbery for initially refusing to hand over their valuables

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained four men in connection to a highway robbery in Chapainawabganj.

ANM Imran Khan, assistant director of Legal and Media Wing of RAB, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.

The detaiinees are Anwar Hossain, 30, Laltu Mia, 34, Abdul Jabbar, 22, and Mokleshur Rahman, 48.

On Monday, a group of men have carried out an outrageous armed robbery on three Dhaka-bound buses as well as some trucks, motorcycles, and rickshaw vans.

According to the RAB, the robbers had gotten away with cash, phones and jewellery worth over Tk13 lakh.

The hour-long robbery took place near Shonajaal point on Bholahat-Shibganj Road at around 8:30pm.

One of the bus drivers recognized Anwar, who then tipped off RAB. After Anwar was detained, he was interrogated and based on information provided by him, the other three were apprehended. 

A case has been filed at Bholahat police station and an operation is underway to rescue the goods lost in the robbery, added RAB sources.

Earlier, police detained five people for interrogation in this connection, according to Bholahat police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahbubuir Rahman.

Five people were also injured during the incident for initially refusing to hand over their valuables.

One of the assistants of the buses claimed that the robbers had sexually harassed women inside the buses.
