A woman in Comilla has filed a case against 17 policemen on charges of looting money and gold ornaments from her home.
In the case filed with a Comilla court on Wednesday, Brahmanpara Upazila resident Salma Akhter also accused law enforcers of assaulting her family members.
The court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Mithila Jahan Nipa ordered the police to investigate the matter before setting September 29 as the deadline for filing the report, said counsel Mohammad Golam Mostafa.
“We will launch an investigation into the allegations in line with the court’s order,” Comilla’s Superintendent of Police Faruq Ahmed.

The cops accused in the case belong to the Brahmanpara police station.
They are sub-inspectors Saiful Islam, Jibon Krishna Majumder and Kamal Hossain, assistant sub-inspectors Krishna Sarkar and Matiur Rahman, and constables Nuruzzaman and Jamal Hossain.
Another 10 unidentified policemen have been accused in the case.
According to the case documents, the police barged into the house of Salma Akhter without any warrant and looted gold ornaments, Tk2 lakh in cash and mobile phones.
Plaintiff Salma Akhter claimed the police physically assaulted her father Jamal Ahmed Khan, a freedom fighter, before taking away her husband Abul Kalam Azad.
Her father had to be admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital due to the injuries, according to Salma.
The local Brahmanpara police dismissed the allegations, saying that Salma’s home was raided to arrest her brother Lokman Hossain, who is wanted for several charges, including robbery.
“During the raid, locals led by Salma and her husband, attacked the police, when her husband was detained. Lokman was arrested later,” said OC Appella Raju Naha.
