DSCC, DNCC raid buildings for Aedes larvae

Mobile courts fine 38 houses and under-construction buildings in Dhaka

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) authorities on Tuesday found Aedes mosquito larvae in 23 buildings of Dhaka, including one of Bombay Sweets company, during an anti-dengue drive.

After visiting 394 houses and under-construction buildings, 11 mobile court teams of the DSCC imposed fines over Tk3 lakh in 23 cases after finding a favorable environment for Aedes mosquito breeding in them, reports UNB.

The drives were conducted by executive magistrates Mahfuzul Alam Masum, Md Alamgir Hossain, Towhiduzzaman Pavel among others in Shiddheswari, Azimpur, Maniknagar, Imambag, Jorbhita, Matuail, Elephant Road, Imamganj and Kadamtali areas of the capital.

Md Mamun Mia, executive magistrate of zone-10, said: “We found larvae of Aedes mosquito in the basement of a building owned by Bombay Sweets and Company Ltd during the drive in Kadamtali area and fined them Tk50,000.”

Meanwhile, the mobile courts of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) realized fines of Tk4.41 lakh in 15 cases during anti-dengue drives, reports BSS.

DNCC executive magistrates led the drives, said a press release. During the drive, various awareness campaigns were carried out and people were encouraged to follow health guidelines and remain vigilant to destroy the larvae of Aedes mosquitoes.

The country's health authorities reported 143 new dengue cases in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning.

Bangladesh has been seeing over 100 dengue patients for the last four days adding worries to the country’s health services, already overburdened with growing Covid cases and fatalities.
