The government has suspended two senior police officials, including one with the rank of a superintendent of police (SP).
The Home Ministry on Tuesday issued separate circulars suspending SM Fazlul Huq, who was stationed at Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-5), and Nazmul Hasan, an assistant commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police. Fazlul was recently promoted to SP.
However, the circulars did not clarify the reasons behind the suspensions – but mentioned that Nazmul would be attached to the Police Headquarters in Dhaka.

It is mandatory and wise that Nazmul be kept away from government activities for the sake of the public interest, the circular on his suspension reads.
“Duly, he is suspended from May 25 [Tuesday] in line with Section 39 (1) of the Public Services Act 2018,” it adds.
Recently, a leaked telephonic conversation between the duo made the rounds on social media where they were heard criticizing the elite force RAB and the promotion of several police officers to the rank of SP.
