Barisal District Administration has formed a five-member committee to investigate Friday’s collision between an oil tanker and cargo ship in Kirtonkhola river.
“The committee, headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (revenue) Ahsan Habib, was formed on Friday night and has been asked to submit report within seven days,” Deputy Commissioner Dr Gazi M Saifuzzaman told the Dhaka Tribune.
“The upper portion of the ship was damaged due to the collision and oil was transferred in another chamber and drums without delay. So, not much diesel has spilled into the river,” he added.

Two separate cases were also filed with Kotwali police station by owners of both ships.
The collision between the Barisal-bound oil tanker from Chittagong MT Fazal and Narayanganj-bound clinker-laden cargo from India MV Maa Babar Doa took place near Char Kawa on Friday morning.
The collision had caused a rupture in the tanker through which around 200 litres of oil spilled in the river. However, prompt action from the tanker’s crew has helped to avoid further spill.
