Police have recovered the partially decomposed dead body of a cousin of State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, from a flat in Chittagong city’s Halishahar area on Wednesday night. The deceased Salam Bablu, 40, son of the late MA Salam and maternal cousin to State Minister Saifuzzaman, is a businessman, Halishahar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mahfuzur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune. “He used to live with his family on the eighth floor of an apartment building in the Santibag area of Halishahar, near the Chittagong District Police Lines,” said the OC, adding that the cause of death could not be ascertained immediately. OC Mahfuzur said: “Bablu’s family members went to Dhaka three days ago while the door of the flat has remained closed since then. On Wednesday, Bablu’s neighbours informed police of a foul smelling odour from the premises, and police officials recovered the body after breaking open the door.” The body has been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Upon hearing the news, the state minister rushed to the spot.
