Police have arrested a transport worker for allegedly beating a bus driver to death over a trivial matter in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila.
The victim is Md Shahjahan, 36, from the district’s Kapasia upazila. He used to carry workers of an apparel factory in Sreepur.
Titu, one of the two accused including the arrestee, Md Rafiqul Islam, is on the run while a covered van has been seized in this connection, said Sreepur police station Officer-in-Charge Konadaker Imam Hossain.
The duo locked into an altercation with Shahjahan over an accident which broke a side view mirror of the covered van Titu was driving on Thursday afternoon, he added.
At one stage, they indiscriminately hit Shahjahan with sticks, leaving him unconscious.
Locals immediately rescued and rushed him to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, where he died later at night.
A case was filed over the death in the early hours of Friday.
